Two reasons. (1) Yes, secularists can be morally upright, but look across the percentage of morally upright. Religiuos people by far donate their time and money at a higher rate than secularists. (2) The definition of morally upright changes for secularists over time to satisfy their sensibilities. Just look at abortion. How many secularists support abortion, one of the gravest evils I can imagine. The secular defining of abortion as being morally acceptable changed over time. Secularists do this continuously within the culture. They always define what is upright based on their own current definitions.Mannyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15396201693030286919noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1887258513611422728.post-85868917526727142512015-01-31T12:52:23.307-07:002015-01-31T12:52:23.307-07:00We aren’t called to be ‘good’. “You, therefore, mu...We aren’t called to be ‘good’. “You, therefore, must be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect.” (Matt 5:48) “….all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Rom 3:23) and “Though a righteous man falls seven times, he will get up, but the wicked will stumble into ruin.” (Prov 24:16) What is this ‘good’ anyway? How do the atheists measure up on things like humility, patience, bearing wrongs gladly? All of us share in the consequences of original sin. All of us need grace to be disciples of Christ. But Catholics have the fullest means of grace. Should that not count for something? But, yes, Christianity is not primarily a moral code. It is first and foremost about a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, our Lord and Saviour.Highland Cathedralhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07519428794618769856noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1887258513611422728.post-24604940994575797482015-01-30T21:56:18.364-07:002015-01-30T21:56:18.364-07:00So are you saying: "since there is (seemingly...So are you saying: "since there is (seemingly) no punishment for NOT believing in objective truth, why do it?"
Is that your question?duck29nowhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02799108889238563104noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1887258513611422728.post-91230225115594537562015-01-30T10:57:11.807-07:002015-01-30T10:57:11.807-07:00We are not called to be only "good" and ...We are not called to be only "good" and "moral", as Christians the One True God calls us to be Holy, even as He is Holy.jesusliveshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08447190930689450343noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1887258513611422728.post-29154402656612873412015-01-30T09:36:44.250-07:002015-01-30T09:36:44.250-07:00I would also argue that the best of them cannot re...I would also argue that the best of them cannot remotely stand up to the best of us. They have no one that even approaches the Saints in goodness. They can't even explain the Saints since they defy their notion of false altruism. That is why Hitchens creates a completely false narrative about Mother Theresa. They HAVE to tear her down, even with lies, because she is a towering figure that defies everything they believe is possible.
And also, we have no one that compares to the worst of them! We have no Stalins or Pol Pots. So what do they try to do? Play semantics - Stalin was really like a religious person the way he led. They lose on these two grounds every time and it kills them.Deacon Jason Miller, Ph.D., M.P.A.https://www.blogger.com/profile/14659119132947721214noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1887258513611422728.post-75537945278101374592015-01-30T09:06:50.435-07:002015-01-30T09:06:50.435-07:00But Father, if we can reasonably believe that ther...But Father, if we can reasonably believe that there are no people in Hell then why should we beleive in objective Truth?DWhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09262587917905900259noreply@blogger.com
