Cardinal George on the law and politics of the HHS mandate



On February 7, 2013, Cardinal Francis E. George, former president of the USCCB, spoke to CNS in Rome about the Obama administration's latest proposed rules on the HHS contraception mandate.

He has spoken well. It amazes me that men are crawling out of the woodwork in defense of owning, keeping, buying any sort of gun they want and declaring it a second amendment issue. (The 2nd amendment is really about a well-regulated militia and the arms needed to support such; it is not about arms, per se.) Yet, here come a first amendment issue, and the issue is just as Cardinal George says it is; so why and where are all those citizens who want all their amendments protected? Why isn't everyone screaming about this first amendment infringement by government? Are we all that ignorant? Thank you Cardinal George--someone has to clarify the issue. You have done it well. gh
