Why airplanes don't fly faster


Time is the enemy of the privileged few. Cost is the enemy of the masses.

    Some people fly because they think it's easier, cheaper, and faster for long distance trips than driving or taking a boat.

  4. Because it is economically advantageous to cruise at 420 knots than the 560 - 590 knots that most of the airliners are capable of today.
